Work-Life balance

What?Carley Cran photo

Work-life balance, as we see it, is finding a way to balance the demands of our careers with the demands of family and friends while maintaining our physical and mental health and keeping some time for leisure and free or unproductive activities.

Why?

Work-life balance is conducive if not crucial to wellness. Leading an unbalanced life is sometimes imposed on us and can be fine for short periods of time but is generally unsustainable… Conversely, being well enables us to be more engaged, productive, creative, cheerful and resilient!

Who?

Work-life balance is important to students and everyone in the workforce. Even more so to those of us who have jobs that demand long hours, work in a high-paced, stressful environment, and/or have others to care for at home.

When?

Any time, any place but don’t put it off! Finding and maintaining work-life balance can be challenging at times in our fast-paced and busy lives but it is crucial for your wellbeing. Note that finding the right balance is personal and can change over time as our life circumstances change.

Through outreach and professional development activities, research, partnerships, thought leadership and online initiatives, we work with industry and academia to educate on the value of diversity for innovation, to inspire women to thrive and to celebrate the contributions of women in science and engineering.
