What is your current job? Please list the title and briefly describe what it involves

I am a Systems Engineer and Technical Lead at General Dynamics Missions Systems – Canada. My job involves producing system design documents, requirements and specifications; and defining, selecting and procuring hardware. I am also responsible for the integration of components and support the qualification of systems.

What made you want to pursue a career in engineering?

I chose to pursue a career in engineering because it gave me the opportunity to do a job that has both technical and communication aspects. An engineer has to not only solve complex problems but also has to clearly communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in writing.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

The best part of my job is the variety of experiences working with various teams including systems, hardware, software, manufacturing, procurement and human factors engineering.

How do you celebrate National Engineering Month?

I celebrate engineering month by recognizing the achievements and contributions of my fellow engineers.

What advice do you have for young women who hope to pursue a career in your field?

My advice to women who wish to pursue engineering is to do their best at even the smallest job and always take the time to deliver high quality work. It is extremely important to cultivate a solid reputation. I would also advise to never give up. I was taught from an early age that I could achieve almost anything through hard work.
