Our philosophy

Empowering women and girls to thrive in science andengineering from the classroom to the boardroom.

The NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering Ontario (CWSE-ON) is a leader in promoting and advancing diversity and an agile connector for women, groups and organizations in the fields of science and engineering in Ontario.

We engage and support current and aspiring women in engineering from the classroom to the boardroom with a focus on mid-career professionals. CWSE-ON aims to advance and retain mid-career professionals, study the status of women in science and engineering and to recruit to the profession.

CWSE-ON is a chair program supported by NSERC (the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) and the University of Ottawa.

The Chair has been held by Dr. Catherine Mavriplis, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa since October 2011.

For more on the Chair program and the other chairs check the NSERC Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering's web page.

Through outreach and professional development activities, research, partnerships, thought leadership and online initiatives, we work with industry and academia to educate on the value of diversity for innovation, to inspire women to thrive and to celebrate the contributions of women in science and engineering.
